Nas Wins An Emmy ... Before A Grammy?

After nine albums, millions of records sold, a handful of mixtapes, countless tour dates and being labeled as arguably the nicest MC to ever grip the microphone, Queens rapper Nas recently won a prestigious award for ... a film.

The Braveheart poet recently snagged a National Sports Emmy for his ESPN documentary, "Survival 1." The ESPN short, directed, narrated and produced by Esco is based on the Liberian Amputee Soccer team. The squad of players grabbed national headlines as the majority of the players were victims of a civil war in Libya that injured millions of natives.

News of the award caught Nas himself by surprise, who noted that he managed to secure such a major accomplishment as an Emmy before receiving a Grammy after almost two decades in the rap game.

"After all these years of making music, I am honored to have this be the first award I ever won of this magnitude," Nas said. "An Emmy before a Grammy. Crazy [bleep]."

Any Nas fan or Hip-Hop head would strongly back the Queensbridge MC's shock. Nas has been nominated for Grammys on a few occasions but in none of the former events did he walk away with the prized trophy.

Nas' Emmy comes just days after pal Jay-Z also snagged a similar award.

The Brooklyn rapper won a Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition/ Direction/ Lyrics for Hova’s rendition of “Run This Town.” Earlier this year Hov performed the song during this year’s Super Bowl XLIV opener.
